Plano Optics –

Prisms, prism systems and monolithical optical components

Plano Optics: Bernd Reiss Bernd Reiss will introduce you to the plano-optical department.
New ideas in plano-optics can be realised by CNC-machines which were especially dedicated to the highly efficient machining of glass and ceramic substrates. Several optical and mechanical functions can be combined in one single component. Such fascinatingly innovative optical elements are produced currently in mass-production.
monolithical functional optics New system using multifunctional and monolithic lenses
Integration of mechanical functionality into the optical components (multifunctional) and the integration of several optical functions into one component (monolithic).
This means:
  • Assembly-optimized design (mounting without adjustment)
  • Fewer individual components (miniaturization)
  • Reduction of negative environmental factors through elimination of cement layers and different materials (quality and robustness)
  • Reduction in the weight and in total costs
Plano Optics – Pitch-Polishing
Polishing machines Traditional Manufacturing of Optics Kontrolle
The principle of traditional manufacture hasn’t changed a lot during the last 40 years in plano-optics. But the quality demands keep on increasing nearly on a daily base. These new challenges can only be faced by transferring the know-how to the next generation and by the use of most modern interferometers for testing.
Plano Optics – Precision Cementing
Precision Cemetting Prism combination Cemented prism systems, such as beamsplitters or reverting prisms, hollow corner cubes or other assemblies are often required in optical systems.
The individual optical components are cemented with an optical cement, using collimators and interferometers for their precision alignment. This technology allows us to produce plano-optical assemblies with an angular beam deviation of less than 1 arc second.
Plano Optics – Double-sided polishing of plano-parallel components
Beste Planität durch Doppelseitenpolieren The double-sided lapping and polishing technique is used for the cost-efficient production of flat components requiring high surface quality and parallelism.
Windows and glass filters up to a diameter of 550 mm and up to a parallelism of 1 arc sec. can be produced.
Plano Optics – CNC-Flexible manufacture system
CNC-3D-Machining Plano optics Measurement Our CNC manufacturing cells are able to machine highly complex components made of glass or ceramics according to specific customer’s needs.
A special know-how in combination with highly advanced high-speed manufacturing cells, a 3-D–measurement system, a closed CAD/CAM-circle between the product and process engineering offer various new aspects and possibilities

More details on our technical capabilities, such as::
  • Integrated machining of complete optical components
  • multifunctional and monolithical optics
  • 3D-machining of glass & ceramics

Plano Optics – Quality control
Measurement Interferometric testing is part of the production cycle. This allows an optimisation of the production process at an early stage. This individual adaptation of machines and tools is part of our well-known know-how in plano-optics.
Upon customer’s request a full measurement report is possible as a final operation. Experienced physicists are supporting the production on non-standard measurements.
